We are getting down to the return time on this deployment. By the time it’s all finished I figured we’d have invested close to eight months of our lives towards this tour. We can now add another eight days to this, as I was recently informed that he has to stay an extra eight days. While this doesn’t surprise me, I admit I’m a little down about it. I’m also not staying down about it, because the military changes its mind, like I change…..uh shoes.
In police and military life learning to be flexible in change is fun! Like bending into a yoga pose for the first time, you never know what’s gonna hang out, or if you can move afterwards. But once you practice you’ll get limbered up, and finally you can change positions with ease.
We really don’t like change, but it can be good for us. If our outlook is positive we can even welcome change. I think we could add change to the old saying about” the sure things in life are death, and taxes, and change”.
When things don’t go as planned, we can repeat this prayer and gain much comfort and insight needed to see us through our present and future difficulties; God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; Courage to change the things I can; And wisdom to know the difference.
