When the day begins I greet it and the one who created it. I then go about the day with a purpose to greet everyone around me. Mother called me a Social Butterfly, and stated that I was like her sister and neither of us ever met a stranger.
Today, I’m not as affectionately thought of or else the times have changed the language. I get called Chatty Cathy, and my kids plead with me to stop telling everyone I see, everything thing I know.
Growing up an only child in a one parent home many times left just two people alone together. This caused me to go outside and make friends.
Over the years I have learned that if I am lonely, all I need to do is go outside. Sitting on the patio greeting the day or evening, I invite the Lord to sit-n-chat. Or I go outside and meet a friend for coffee, lunch or attend a bible study. The thing is …..I go out of my comfort zone, go out of my way, get up and move.
It is too easy these days to let an overbooked schedule push out precious time with family, and leaving no time to grow friendships.
Growth takes effort. Friendships will bloom like flowers in a rich soil. If we move outside our normal routine, then something very different will happen. If we build up the soil our friendships will flourish, and loneliness will only be that occasional weed we have to pick.
That was nice!
