We face many challenges everyday. Being alone and attending events alone is a challenge that seems to come daily for most of us. If you have ever moved to a new place, gone through a divorce, lost a spouse, or live the military life, or police life, Medical or clergy life, oil field……the list goes on, then chances are you have had to go somewhere alone.
It’s easy to stay home, skip a celebration, avoid get togethers, make excuses. We just don’t feel comfortable going by ourselves. There will be couples at every event. This makes sense to feel this way, as we were not created to be alone. God also created us to commune with him, if we neglect this relationship our loneliness is magnified.
Finding courage and strength to go beyond our feelings, brings and end result that far outweighs any other reward. We can fill our loneliness and someone else’s too by sitting next to them at church, joining a singles group, taking treats to a retirement home or to a widowed neighbor…..this list of opportunities goes on and on.
We may still feel a little awkward but the more we step out in courage, the more courage we gain and the more relaxed we’ll be. Why rob ourselves and others, or God by being alone.
God has given you courage and strength already, so ask him to help you use them for attending an event alone. While you are there bless yourself and someone else by saying Hello and sitting next to them, both your hearts will be glad you didn’t just stay home alone.
