Lead Me Not Into Temptation

A welcomed summer shower fell last night while we slept giving the dry parched ground refreshment. This morning the moisture still evident on the almost green again blades of grass resembled glass pebbles. The morning sky is grey blue and  the almost cold breeze is blowing the clouds around so they can’t keep their form. As the weak sun peeks above the roof top’s it finds me sitting knees bent to my chest, listening to a ruckus coming from a nearby tree. I spot five huge black birds (we’ll call them Metal Heads) flying in and out of the tree no doubt up to no good, sounding out their head banging  “caw cawing”  at super sonic volume. Trailing relentlessly right behind them giving out a repeated shrill “squeek” is the Dive Bomber. I’m not sure what this bird is, but I’ve seen it several times before goes after everything that moves and poses a threat. Quickly, the show ends with the Metal Heads smashing their guitars and retreating towards another yard far off.  Before the ruckus began an audience of twenty or so tiny tweets were lined up on the fence top as if they bought tickets and were awaiting the show. When it got intense they hot tailed it out of sight. They obviously weren’t true “fans”.

My thought came when watching the agressive, persistent Dive Bomber never let up on chasing those Metal Heads right out of town. This reminds me of how we must attack temptations before they can quickly turn to sin. We need to be agressive with the beginning thoughts that turn into temptaions, that then lead to the committing of the sin. How lazy we become, or just the audacity with wich we think we can entertain the thought and that will never lead to temptation.

In the morning when I repeat the Lord’s prayer (Luke 11:4 and lead us not into temptation) I am staying on top of things. I’m already asking for help before I think the thoughts, or get tempted, or fall to sin. By daily praying ,seeking, and applying God’s word I can dive bomb the enemy and stay on him til he retreats.

Are You Entertaining Thoughts That Can lead You Into Temptation?
