Positioning the truck with ease into the perfect spot to view the fireworks tonight was a first for me. As I climbed through the window I rested my elbows on the roof. This was also a first for perfect weather the humidity faded and gave way to a light breeze. Watching the reds, blues, greens and silver bursts of light hit the night sky I realized this was also my first time to watch the patriotic display alone. Feeling a twinge of sadness as the loud booms and cracks echoed in the night I counted this as the third 4th of July missed by my Hubby due to his being deployed.
In my mind I wondered if the sounds of the fireworks display sounded anything like the rocket attacks in war. In my heart I know that sound is worse. I offered up a soft prayer for the families mourning their dead heroes, for those still in the fight and that freedom could quickly come for all people.
Back at the house I come to the patio ,wrapped in our Gbabys soft blanket made especially for military kids to comfort them when they miss their loved one. It works for adults too!
The neighborhood is alive with celebrating! Its almost midnight and the sounds of that celebration are beginning to fade. I can hear the cicadias scratching out a familiar summer lullaby with the promise of sweet sleep.
